Earlier this summer, I took a weekend escape to Boston to meet my friend Maria who was doing an executive course at Harvard University. We planned a food-centric weekend with a little side of sightseeing. When thinking of where to stay in Cambridge, we came across Royal Sonesta Boston. Here’s all about our stay…
Location
When looking for where to stay in Cambridge, location is very important. Maria needed a hotel near Harvard that also had quick access to the city. Royal Sonesta Boston provided just that. It took me just 20 minutes to get to the hotel from the airport on a Friday night. We also loved the bike/walk path along the Charles River right across the hotel. If you want to do a little shopping the Cambridge Side Galleria is located right across the street from the hotel. Boston Commons and Copley Square are 15 minutes by car, 30 minutes by public transportation, or a 45-minute walk.
Rooms
PSA: make sure to ask for a room with a view when staying at the Royal Sonesta Boston. The property has an uninterrupted view of the Charles River and the Boston skyline. The rooms are spacious, the beds are plush and comfortable, and the bathroom had L’Occitane toiletries. The decor is minimal yet modern, with blue and neutral tones that reflect the New England vibe.
The Food
We brunched at ArtBar Cambridge which is located at the lobby of Royal Sonesta Boston. Sadly, it was bit cold the morning we had brunch and missed out on the patio seating. Brunch was good, highly recommend the lobster roll. We ordered both the classic and the one with the chipotle aioli. They were both fantastic, it all depends whether you are a purist or not. I wasn’t too crazy about the sweet potato tater tots on the side, but the roll made up for that.
The Service
The service was impeccable at the Royal Sonesta Boston. I only stayed three nights for my weekend trip and Maria ended up booking a few extra nights. The staff went out of their way to accommodate her schedule. We also received a turnover every evening with water and chocolate. From the attention to detail from housekeeping to the friendly bellmen, you can tell that the management puts service first.
Royal Sonesta Boston: The Verdict
If you’re looking for where to stay in Cambridge, Royal Sonesta Boston is a great pick. We had a wonderful stay. Aside from the sweet potato tots, everything else was perfect!
