Cherry Blossom Cocktail Recipe: Blossomtini at Melrose Georgetown Hotel
Cherry Blossom Cocktail Recipe: Blossomtini

It’s that time of the year… our Nation’s capital turns pink as the cherry blossoms bloom across the city.  Many restaurants, hotels, and bars create their unique version of a cherry blossom dish or cocktail.  Spring arrived early to Washington, DC and my friend Ashley and I decided to check out the cherry blossom cocktail at the Melrose Georgetown Hotel The Lounge Bar.  When we got our Blossomtinis, we were both in agreement that that was one of the most beautiful cocktails we’ve had.  When we tasted it, we were both taken by how good it was. It’s a bit on the sweet side for my palate so I will stop at one, but it is a great aperitif or even a beautiful way to end the evening.

Millian Palma, the manager at Melrose Georgetown Hotel The Lounge Bar was gracious enough to share his cherry blossom cocktail recipe with us.  Even if you live miles away from Washington, DC, you can bring a bit of the cherry blossom spirit to your party.

1/2 ounce of Gekkeikan Plum Wine
1 dash of Lemon Juice
1/2 ounce of Egg Whites

Put all the ingredients in a mixing glass except the beer and garnish, shake it very well. Pour it into a chilled cocktail glass, add beer and garnishes and cheers to blossoms!

The first two ingredients may seem challenging to find, but if you go to any high quality wine shop or liquor store, they probably have the sake and plum wine or a reasonable substitute.  What are your favorite cherry blossom treats in the city?
