Cocktail at Pub Dread Halloween Pop Up Bar DC 2

Drink Company is at it again! The same people who brought us the Game of Thrones Pop-Up Bar created something just as unique: Pub Dread. Last week, I had the opportunity to take a peek. What makes this place different is the meticulous attention to detail with its decor and menu. I will try not to give that much away, you have to see it for yourself!

The Scene

Pub Dread is for those with a big imagination. As you enter the bar, you’re taken into an alternate universe of skulls, possessed dolls and… David Bowie! The space has four different themes taking you from a 80’s themed horror movie to dancing to David Bowie’s greatest hits. Sounds weird but it meshes quite well! Just as their previous pop-up bar, the decor is amazing. So freakin’ creative!

Getting There

Located in the popular Shaw neighborhood of DC, Pub Dread is easy to get to. Parking is crazy in that area, especially at night. I highly recommend you take a ride share or metro to the bar. As all of their pop-up events, the wait can be a bit long, so I suggest you check it out on a weeknight. Get there early or come late at night.

The Drinks

With drinks aptly named “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice” and “Do you like scary movies” the cocktail menu at Pub Dread is inventive. Choose your poison: rye, rum, gin, or vodka, and there’s a cocktail for you. I’ll be honest: I tried several cocktails and they were a bit too sweet for my taste. To me, the real winner was the Southern Tier Brewery Pumpking, a pumpkin ale. It had a warm pumpkin flavor without being too sweet or spicy. Going to buy a six-pack of that very soon soon!

Pub Dread: The Verdict

If you love Halloween and all things 80’s,  Pub Dread is the place for you. Bonus: Drink Company encourages you to dress up for this experience. So if you’re lamenting only getting dressed up once for Halloween, this is the time to dust off your costume and go out for a drink! Not a drinker? They also make virgin cocktails…
