As many DC locals already know, Provision 14 is a trendy, modern dining venue and bar, complete with two levels and an outdoor patio. The hotspot has just released its new fall drink and food menu, and I happened to be one of the lucky ones on hand to sample the new goodies.
First, I am going to start with the most important items at Provision 14: the drinks! My personal favorite was the Cranberry Fall Fizz, a wildly seasonal concoction made of fresh cranberries, spicy ginger, lime, fall spices, bourbon, and blended rum. It’s a little sweet but not too sweet, a little tart but not too tart, and has a nice earthy warmth to it from the bourbon and rub. Here’s a picture of one of my favorite bartenders, Rico Wisner, mixing up a batch for my sister and I to sample.
I also loved Provision 14’s seasonal slushy, which features six varieties of baked apples and pears, fenugreek, freshly grated cinnamon, bourbon, and applejack. Although it’s counterintuitive to order an icy drink in cooler weather, the drink is super refreshing and the ingredients still pay homage to the cool weather.
On to the food! As many people know, I do love fried food so my favorite dish of the evening was the cheese filled onion rings. Yep, you read that right! Take a bite out of one of these crispy bad boys gooey and melted Gruyere cheese oozes out. You could make a meal just out of the onion rings! But, there are other highlights which included a grilled cheese with two different kinds of cheese, salads, Parmesan fries, and fried apples for dessert.
The Verdict: Next time you are on 14th street stop by for a one of Rico’s awesome beverages and some onion rings!
