Update (07/06/2020): Restaurant closed and has since reopened as St. Greg Kitchen & Bar.

Ten years ago, hotel restaurants were an afterthought. They were places where you ate when traveling alone on business travel. Thankfully, the hotel dining scene had reinvented itself and proof of this is the new Tredici Enoteca DC restaurant located at the St. Gregory Hotel near Dupont Circle. This new bar and restaurant needs to be on your 2017 DC dining list.

The Scene: I headed to the bar first and encountered a lively scene. A combination of tourists, business travelers, and locals converged at the beautiful brass and glass bar. One of the staff members actually helped design and construct the bar shelves and fixtures. The restaurant is located across the hotel lobby and has a much quieter vibe. The décor is simple yet elegant with leather, brass, and lots of wood.

The Bar: Tredici Enoteca DC, as the name implies, has an extensive wine list with plenty of domestic and international wines to choose from. The cocktail menu is not one to pass up either. From the mezcal Pompelmo cocktail to the smoky take on the Old Fashioned, the Tredici #2, make room for a cocktail before your meal.

The Food: Given that I haven’t had oysters for almost 10 months (new mom here), I was all over the raw bar platter. This gorgeous platter with oysters, raw tuna, stone crab, and tiger shrimp set the perfect tone for the meal. Executive Chef Carlos Aparicio has created an inventive menu with classic Italian staples such as homemade gnocchi to moroccan spiced ribs. Some of the favorite items of the group were the burrata and Israeli couscous salad, the lamb chops, and the flat breads. I enjoyed that the menu is quite varied, perfect for a large group with different tastes and guests can even order the flatbreads gluten free. We concluded our meal sharing a few of the desserts. One of the favorites was the lemon meringue tart. It’s the perfect balance of flavor and beautiful presentation.

The Verdict: Tredici Enoteca DC is a great new addition to the bustling DC dining scene. It’s perfect for business dinners, date nights, or a group of friends.

New in DC Dining: Tredici Enoteca DC
