Recently I had a staycation at one of the most beloved luxury hotels in DC: the Park Hyatt Washington. To me, luxury is not only about the quality and decor of the room, but also about the experience. That is what Park Hyatt Washington delivers the best. I have visited the hotel plenty of times for dinner, tea, and cocktails. Also, I’ve had the opportunity to experience their event space at our first Women of Color Travel event last November. Needless to say, it’s one of my favorite properties in DC. Here are some of my highlights:

The Location: One of criteria to picking luxury hotels in DC (in my humble opinion) is location. I like that Park Hyatt Washington is located on 24th and M St, just a 15 minute walk to the center of Georgetown, 15 minute walk to Dupont Circle, and a 10 minute walk to the Foggy Bottom Metro Station. This central location allows you to reach all the key points of the city by public transportation, by foot, or a short taxi ride. Here’s my guide on how to spend a day in Georgetown.

The Rooms: We stayed at the Park Executive Suite, which was incredibly spacious. It includes a spacious living room area, a small dining area, a king size bed, spa bathroom, and 1 1/2 bathrooms. The room decor is very warm: rich, dark woods, wooden sculptures, cozy bed… needless to say, it was difficult to leave the room! I’ve visited many luxury hotels in DC, and must say, the rooms at the Park Hyatt Washington are one of my favorites.

The Food: Where do we start? The Park Hyatt Washington is home to one of the most revered restaurants in Washington DC: The Blue Duck Tavern. If you ask most locals about their favorite restaurants, their list usually include The Blue Duck. The restaurant serves American classics with a refined touch. Their menu is seasonal and you will find that the restaurant’s Chef de Cuisine Brad Deboy incorporates many ingredients sourced from local and small farms from the mid-Atlantic. I’ve dined several times at the restaurant and always leave with a happy, full belly! This time, I indulged in the roasted quail with a light farro salad and a yogurt sauce. Lately I’ve been craving rich, comfort foods so I couldn’t help but to order the white corn grits, delicious! We concluded our dinner sharing a beautifully decadent strawberry shortcake for dessert. The shortcakes were rich in flavor but with a light consistency, which we really enjoyed.

Another culinary you must experience at the hotel is breakfast. You don’t have to wait for the weekend to treat yourself to the breakfast specialties offered. Indulge in their pancakes, one of my favorite items on their menu. They change seasonally, so keep your eye out for lemon poppy to pumpkin pancakes throughout the year. Bonus: I treated the Dutchman for breakfast at The Blue Duck Tavern back in March. When we arrived to our latest dinner almost 5 months later, our server greeted us by name. It’s all in the little details. Also, don’t forget have a cocktail at their beautiful bar. Read more about the bar experience here.

The Verdict: If looking for luxury hotels in DC, Park Hyatt Washington should be on your list, especially if you a lover of great food. The location is superb, the service impeccable, and the culinary offerings make it a must visit in Washington, DC.
