Pure indulgence! It’s not every Sunday that you indulge yourself in the cocoon of the Ritz Carlton Tysons Corner tea room. While this is probably a good thing for one’s waist line it is certainly a fine way to while away a few hours. The premise for our trip was my daughter’s ninth birthday. As we set foot in the tea room at Ritz Carlton Tyson’s Corner, the pianist played ‘Happy Birthday’ and the children in our group were thrilled to be greeted with their very own pot of “Hershey’s” hot chocolate.

About The Peter Rabbit Tea

As if afternoon tea alone wouldn’t tempt the children sufficiently, the genius team at the Ritz Carlton Tysons Corner have created a Peter Rabbit Tea, just for our younger friends. Served on Friday – Sundays 12pm-4pm, the under 12’s can delight in a selection of sandwiches: nutella, peanut butter and jelly and turkey and American cheese. This is followed by our personal favorite – chocolate dipped strawberries, brownie, teddy bear cookie and fruit tart, all served on Peter Rabbit plates.

Tower of Deliciousness

The Food

This feast didn’t stop them dipping into the adult’s tea, not through any suggestion of hunger, just pure unadulterated gluttony! There’s something for every age at the Ritz Carlton Tysons Corner tea service. Adults enjoy more sophisticated tastes of poached asparagus and sun-dried tomato confit, smoked salmon and herb cream cheese tea sandwiches.

The finest French patisserie couldn’t beat their cinnamon palmier and lemon berry tart, so delicate in flavor yet light enough to leave you wanting more. Sadly for me, the tiramisu mousse was too much for tiny fingers to resist! I am reliably informed that they tasted something like “heaven!”

The Sweet Life

The beautifully dressed table at the Ritz Carlton Tysons Corner tea room hinted at the treats to come. Small pots of lemon curd, cream and jelly were placed temptingly on display. The currant scones were sugar-coated and baked to perfection – fluffy on the inside with a slightly toasted exterior. With the indulgent whipped cream and jelly they were ‘melt in the mouth’ delicious. The kind of treat you don’t want to eat too quickly for fear that then it’s gone!

Ritz Carlton Tysons Corner Tea Service: The Verdict

As you’d expect at the Ritz Carlton, the service is so much more than a smile. Utter graciousness, in an ambiance of sophistication. This is a great opportunity to exercise those fine table manners we wax lyrical to our children about, and a wonderful moment to feast on all the treats we try to resist the rest of the year. This tea comes highly recommended!

This past summer I experienced three stays at three very different Hyatt properties in the DC area to include the Grand Hyatt Washington and Park Hyatt Washington.  The last one of these staycations took place at the Hyatt Tysons Corner in Mclean, VA.  Fellow urban dwellers can attest that city people can be lazy… we hate leaving our neighborhoods and forget how nice the Tysons Corner area in Northern Virginia is.  I am glad we headed out on a Saturday to do a little shopping and relaxation at Hyatt Tysons Corner.

All about our staycation at Hyatt Tysons Corner:

Location:  Location, Location, Location! The Hyatt Tysons Corner scores high on the location meter. It’s located right next to the Tysons Corner Mall.  There’s literally a door that takes you right into the mall.  I haven’t been to Tysons Corner mall in a while and love what they’ve done in terms of entertainment and shopping options.  Whether you’re a couple on a weekend escape or a family, there’s plenty that the mall has to offer: shopping, wide dining range, and a full-service movie theater.  In terms of geographic location, it’s equidistant from Dulles Airport and Downtown Washington, DC.  The new Silver Line on the metro takes you straight to Washington, DC without the hassle of parking or traffic.

Rooms: We were fortunate to be upgraded to the Presidential Suite which was fabulous.  The Hyatt Tysons Corner is a new property and it reflects on the modern decor of the suite:  a beautiful neutral color palette with pops of color in the right places, fashion coffee books lining the office, and beautiful view extending to the forests of Northern Virginia.  I don’t get lucky with the upgrades all the time so I made sure to check out the standard rooms: they are spacious, with beautiful modern decor, and tons of natural light.

The Food:  We dined at Barrel & Bushel, the hotel’s restaurant on a Saturday night. Dining Traveler Tip: make sure to make a reservation ahead of time as it was quite busy when we arrived.  The restaurant was bustling with a mix of hotel guests and locals, a very lively scene. The menu is classic American dishes, mostly in small plates for guests to share. We indulged in delicious fried chicken sliders, 72-hour braised pork belly, and crab avocado toasts.  Everything was delicious but very rich! Make sure to book on your cheat day! Thankfully we took advantage of the gym at Hyatt Tysons Corner the following day!

Amenities: The hotel has an ample sized gym with a good selection of cardio, machines, and free weights. The airy and bright fitness center is also equipped with water, headphones, and towels.  After our workout, we took a look at the indoor pool which is decent sized, with great natural light, and lifeguard on duty.  Another perk of the hotel is free parking. Living in the DC area this is very hard to come by. If your trip to the DC area involves driving, I suggest staying outside of the city as parking rates in the city are ridiculous ($40-50 a night in major hotels).

The Verdict: If you’re looking for a property with close access to both Washington, DC and Northern, VA the Hyatt Tysons Corner is the place for you. The hotel strikes the perfect balance for business and family, it has a great dining options nearby to cater to every taste, and it’s just steps away from great shopping! Looking for a staycation?  The hotel currently has a 10% off sale for their Hyatt Passport Members (membership is free).
