Kenya has breathtaking terrains, abundant wildlife, and a rich cultural heritage. A haven for adventure and serenity travelers, it offers diverse experiences that capture the imagination. Its unique ecosystem, biodiversity, and nature make for an unforgettable trip. Whether planning a bucket-list trip or wanting a personalized experience, several private tours provide a memorable way to explore this African gem.

The Majesty of the National Parks

The country’s national parks and reserves are among the most iconic in the world, offering unmatched experiences through Kenya private tours. The Maasai Mara, famous for the Great Migration, hosts millions of wildebeest and zebras journeying across vast plains. Visitors can witness predators in action or enjoy quieter moments of giraffes gracefully strolling the savannah.

Amboseli National Park, located at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, provides stunning views of Africa’s highest peak. Elephants roam freely here, their silhouettes against the mountain creating a picture-perfect scene. The diversity doesn’t end there—parks like Tsavo, Samburu, and Lake Nakuru each have unique flora, fauna, and landscapes, promising a unique adventure.

Cultural Connections: Meet Kenya’s People

Beyond its wildlife, the country boasts a rich cultural tapestry. The Maasai and Samburu communities are known for their colorful attire, traditional dances, and close connection to nature. Private tours backed by expert guides often include visits to local villages, thus offering travelers a chance to understand these communities’ lifestyles and traditions firsthand. A visit wouldn’t be complete without experiencing its vibrant cities like Nairobi and Mombasa. From lively markets filled with handcrafted goods to museums showcasing the nation’s history, these cities add depth to your Kenya itinerary.

Modified Travel for Unforgettable Adventures

Private tours allow travelers to accommodate individual preferences, making them ideal for travelers seeking personalized experiences. Whether it’s a family safari, a romantic getaway, or a solo exploration, itineraries can focus on specific interests. Guides with extensive knowledge of the region enhance the journey, sharing insights about wildlife behavior, conservation efforts, and local traditions. Such modified experiences allow for a deeper connection to the wonders of this destination.

Iconic Terrains: From Savannahs to Beaches

Kenya’s beauty is not limited to the wildlife. The terrains are equally enchanting, offering endless opportunities for exploration—the golden savannahs of the Rift Valley contrast with the lush greenery of tea farms in the highlands.

The Indian Ocean coastline adds another layer of allure and breathtaking beauty. Pristine beaches like Diani and Watamu offer turquoise waters, soft sands, and a chance to unwind after a safari. Activities such as snorkeling, diving, deep-sea fishing, and dhow sailing allow travelers to fully immerse themselves in Kenya’s vibrant and diverse marine life.

Responsible Travel: Supporting Conservation Efforts

Kenya is a global leader in wildlife conservation, and its parks and reserves play a vital role in protecting endangered species. Many tours curated by expert travel guides promote sustainable practices, ensuring that visits benefit the environment and local communities. Travelers can contribute by choosing eco-friendly accommodations, participating in conservation initiatives, or simply learning about ongoing efforts to safeguard the country’s unique biodiversity. Responsible tourism ensures the preservation of Kenya’s natural and cultural heritage for future generations.

The country’s blend of extraordinary wildlife, diverse cultures, and stunning terrains creates a destination like no other. With the flexibility and personalized touch of Kenya’s private tours backed by professional guides, travelers can experience this remarkable country in a way that suits their preferences. From thrilling safaris and cultural encounters to serene coastal retreats, every moment in Kenya offers the chance to connect with nature and create lasting memories. For those seeking adventure, tranquility, and a deeper appreciation of the world’s natural and cultural treasures, this country is a journey worth taking.

The first time I flew on Business Class it changed my life… and ruined my expectations about air travel altogether. I remember it like it was yesterday: ten years ago, I was flying from Honolulu to Bangkok via United for work.  I had upgraded with my miles and the experience was pretty glorious, especially when you have two long flight segments.  This was the golden age of mileage travel, when you could easily upgrade your ticket with miles – without the ridiculous mile and cash expectations imposed on the airlines these days.  Thankfully, it was the beginning of many First and Business Class travel experiences, for which I am very grateful.  When I look back at those experiences (besides the amenities, the leg space, and the comfort), there’s definitely a highlight that is missing on coach: good food.  I asked around to my veteran luxury travel friends to get their feedback on some of their favorite First or Business Class dining experiences.  This is what they had to say:

From Caviar to Champagne: First and Business Class Dining Stories:

Nancy from Luxe Travel Family Blog: “After pre-flight champagne and macadamia nuts, guests in the spacious Lufthansa First Class cabin are offered a choice of appetizers, including caviar with traditional garnishes. I rarely eat caviar but find it difficult to resist in the Lufthansa First Class cabin! A soup course, entree, salad buffet, and selection of cheese and dessert complete the attentive, and often exceptional, Lufthansa First Class dining experience.”

Martin van Dop, editorial contributor at Dining Traveler: “With my height (6’9”) I am always very grateful when I do have the chance to fly Business Class, especially on long flights. One such long flight was from Amsterdam to Melbourne, Australia. Usually, I would have chosen to spend a night or two in Asia to acclimatize a little and enjoy great food there, but this time I was on a bit of a tight schedule. Not to worry – as I was pampered on Emirates Airlines’ A380 Business Class.  Firstly, it is quite relaxing to change up the sitting routine (although the seats have a pulsating massage mode that stimulates your blood circulation and keeps your back happy) by taking a stroll to their bar area where they will prepare you a mean gin and tonic or any other cocktail of your choosing. Quite surreal to be lounging at a bar at 30,000 ft.  As to food; I actually remember replicating this dish after I came home (who can say that about an airline meal): an appetizer of lightly seared tuna strips on a bed of Japanese button mushrooms and seaweed salad with a drizzle of balsamico. The sweetness of the seaweed salad, the tart vinegar with the tuna and mushrooms: divine! The glass of perfectly chilled sauvignon made this appetizer extremely memorable.”

Michael L, a seasoned Business Class traveler based in New York City: “Aboard Cathay Pacific’s First Class experience, it provides ample comfort and space as you fall into your luxurious seat for the next 14 hours.  As you wait to take off, enjoy a refreshing glass of Krug and salmon tartare as this amuse bouche sets the tone for what’s to come.  Meal service is set up with meticulous detail, comparable to 5-star dining. Begin your meal with champagne wishes and caviar dreams. Whether you desire perfectly cooked tenderloin steak or stir-fry lobster, dining options offer both Western and Chinese style meals to best suit your palate preferences.”

As for me, my favorite Business Class dining experience was flying from Beijing to Seoul on Asiana.  I must say, Asian airlines set the example for the rest of the airline industry when it comes to great service and food.  Although a short flight, we were treated to a beautiful lunch and had the choice between a western or Asian selection.  I opted for a noodle dish that did not disappoint, it was paired with champagne, of course!

Given that the golden age of mileage First and Business Class travel is over, there are other means of getting the best deal when it comes to purchasing first or business class travel tickets.  That’s where Ultimate Class Airfares comes in. Their service is so personalized that you put in a request via their website and then a representative contacts you within 24 hours to discuss your First and Business Class travel plans.  As I’m sure many of you know, sometimes it’s tricky to find a good deal on premium seats. Well, they make it not only easy – but personal.

As much as I travel, I love to take a staycation in the area from time to time. However, every now and then, I enjoy a little escape to Tysons Corner. Recently, I experienced a staycation at the Ritz Carlton Tysons Corner, a slice of luxury in the beltway.  Spa, great food, and shopping… What else can I ask for?

Ritz Carlton Tysons Corner Bar
Cocktail at ENTYSE at Ritz Carlton Tysons Corner

The Scene:  The Ritz Carlton Tysons Corner is tucked away in McLean, Virginia.  You can feel the calming vibe upon arrival with the warm palette of the lobby décor and beautiful fresh flowers everywhere.  There is also a discreet entrance to Tyson’s Galleria, the epitome of luxury shopping of the Washington, DC metro area.

Ritz Carlton Tysons Corner Room
My room at Ritz Carlton Tysons Corner

The Rooms:  The rooms are spacious with a classic décor.  I enjoyed the separate sitting area to the bedroom.  Given that I work remotely, it is important to me to have a comfortable working space. The room design makes it perfect for that.  The only disappointment I found was Wi-Fi for a fee.  For a luxury property with so many extras, free Wi-Fi should be a must, especially with so many business travelers.  Free Wi-Fi is provided in the lobby and lounge area.

The Location:  With the new silver line, getting to Tysons Corner has never been easier if you want to avoid the traffic from Washington, DC.  The hotel is equidistant to Washington, DC and Dulles Airport and there are plenty of shopping areas and restaurants to choose from.

Ritz Carlton Tysons Corner Spa
Relaxing at the Ritz Carlton Tysons Corner Spa

The Spa:  After two intense weeks of travel, a spa treatment was happily welcomed! Love how the Spa at the Ritz Carlton Tysons Corner is a little oasis in the city. I received a Moroccan Oil scalp treatment with my massage… amazing! After my treatment, I was greeted in the spa lounge with champagne.  There, I started chatting with a lovely woman who was indulging in a whole spa day with her friend. She was telling me how this had become a yearly tradition for them.  It included multiple treatments, access to the pool, gym, and lunch.  She said the quality of the services always made them come back.  Dining Traveler Tip: The Spa offers complimentary valet parking if you’re not a hotel guest.

Ritz Carlton Tysons Corner America Eats

The Food:  Any hotel with a Jose Andres restaurant gets my seal of approval.  I had lunch at America Eats Tavern which has a unique take on American food using a variety of locally sourced ingredients. My watermelon salad followed by their signature coconut cake was to die for.   I also recommend going for a cocktail. Their bar and lounge area is great to catch up with friends.

We also dined at ENTYSE, the wine bar and lounge at the Ritz Carlton Tysons Corner.  Don’t be fooled by the title “wine bar”.  ENTYSE has an eclectic but delicious full dining menu.  Our hostess recommended the pad Thai, which I was hesitant about ordering since the restaurant is not Thai. However, I was surprised, it was absolutely delicious.  Another standout were the Korean shrimp tacos. This is another proof not to overlook hotel restaurants!!!

The verdict:  Whether you are looking for a staycation or a quiet luxury thirty minutes from Washington, DC, the Ritz Carlton Tysons Corner is a great pick.  You can never go wrong with the Ritz Carlton brand (about my Ritz experience in San Juan). Not staying overnight?  Definitely take advantage of the spa and dining options!

I first stayed at the Ritz Carlton San Juan in 2008.  I was living in Germany and came to Puerto Rico for a family wedding.  I treated my mom to a weekend stay before we met up with the rest of the family.  For frequent travelers like myself, many hotel stays can quickly turn into a faint memory.  However, this experience is one I still think of.  Several weeks ago, I was in Puerto Rico touring the east coast of the island.  The last stop was in San Juan for a wedding of a dear friend of mine.  All about the hotel:

View from Ritz Carlton San Juan
View from out room at Ritz Carlton San Juan

The scene:  Isla Verde (the main area of San Juan) is lined with hotels and condos which cater to tourists.  The hotel is located in the furthest end of Isla Verde in a secluded area, immediately giving you an air of exclusivity as you enter.  Upon checking in, you are welcomed with champagne by a friendly staff member.  Compared to larger resorts in the area, I appreciate the more personal vibe of the hotel without taking away the amenities of a luxury resort.

Room at the Ritz Carlton San Juan
Our Room at the Ritz Carlton San Juan

The room:  Our deluxe ocean view room was large and airy with the perfect light coming in.  The décor was luxurious yet minimalistic.  We loved the Asprey London toiletries and the ample size of the bathroom.  We also enjoyed how quiet and peaceful the room environment was.  We barely heard any noise of other guests.  It truly made us feel completely relaxed after a busy road trip along the east coast of the island.

Food at Ritz Carlton San Juan
Cheese selection at brunch

The food:  We had brunch at BLT Steak, which had a special mother’s day buffet which was decadently abundant.  We noticed most of the guests were locals there with their families celebrating Mother’s Day.  There were several stations available: seafood, sushi, pastries, cheese, and a hot food station. The executive chef does an excellent job at merging the flavors of the island along with an international selection.  For breakfast, we enjoyed the continental buffet at Las Brisas.  We sat poolside with a café con leche and quesitos (traditional Puerto Rican puff pastry filled with cream cheese) reflecting on a great trip to Puerto Rico.

Lobby at Ritz Carlton San Juan

The service:  The friendliness I experience but also observed from the staff was exceptional.  During  our brunch, we noticed a waiter helping an elderly woman select her food from the buffet.  I noticed a staff member entertain a child while the parents were trying to place their order. The front desk receptionist noticed my Dutch last name and we struck a conversation about living in Europe (she grew up in Germany).

Ritz Carlton San Juan pool
Pool and beach area at Ritz Carlton San Juan

Pool and Beach:  The pool area is smaller than the other larger resorts in the area but the way it is designed makes room for everyone.  However, if you have a vast ocean in front of you, you might as well take advantage of it!  We loved the attention to detail in the pool area: dispensers with sun block and aloe vera gel.  The beach area is great as it is secluded from the main beach area of Isla Verde due to a natural barrier.  It’s quiet enough to lounge, have a cocktail, take a dip, and read a book.

The verdict:  If you’re looking for a luxury escape, beach views, great service, and good food, this is the place for you. The gem of our stay was the service.  Not only for us, but how we observed the staff treating other guests.  That is what makes a stay unforgettable.  Tip: the Ritz Carlton honors government rates depending on availability.  If you are military/government, look into those rates while booking. (I used the government rate on my first visit and saved 25%)
